LOCAL COUPLE WED WITH A BANG

Local couple Grace Sturrock and Mark Jerling were the first to tie the knot in a very unusual wedding location – an eighteenth gunpowder vault.  The wedding took place at Explosion!, The Museum of Naval Firepower at 3.30pm on Saturday 1 December 2001 in the Grand Magazine at Priddy’s Hard in Gosport. The couple from Cosham in Portsmouth had a Scottish Highland theme with pipers leading them down the aisle of the brick vaulted gunpowder store.

Grace Sturrock said, “ We didn’t want a traditional wedding, as soon as we saw Explosion! we just said WOW! – this is the place for us.  As half of our family came down from Scotland we were looking for something by the sea and truly memorable.  Explosion! is definitely the place to create something different”

After the ceremony the couple had a drinks reception in the museum, complete with highland dancers, followed by a sit down dinner for 200 guests back in the gunpowder vault.

Nicky Kelso, Event Manager at Explosion! said, “ We were delighted to be having as our first wedding such a colourful event.  All of us at Explosion! were very excited about the day and hoped that Grace and Mark enjoy it as much as we did”

Mr. and Mrs. Charlesworth

Adam and Katy Charlsworth had a recent Reception at Explosion! The couple married at a nearby church before arriving at the Museum via boat on the Camber.

The couple then had Pimms and refreshments on the Museum green before moving into the Grand Magazine for a memorable Reception.
