LIVING MEMORIES

We would like to hear from anyone who worked at The Royal Naval Armament Depots of Priddy's Hard. Please send in your memories to mfarrance@explosion.org.uk and we will post them up on this site as part of an oral history archive.

From bob - memories of Priddy's Hard

.....I joined Priddy's Hard in October 1930 and retired in june 1978 after 48 years service. I shall describe a few feelings and memories to you. My first scary moment was when a hand, Mr Hayle brushed against a case and it fell to the floor. The case was full of cartridges made up of cordite charge (an explosive element). It fell to the floor and I thought I'd had it, expecting it to blow the room up! I also recall an occasion that couldn't be repeated today. I was to dispose of thousands of detonators. The detonator was placed on a block and was struck by a spike. The force of the explosion produced by the detonator would make the spike fly into the air and me lose it!
